Theory: The Conan Gods as "The New Gods"

Here are some thoughts on using the EQ2 gods as "The Old Gods" while the gods of Conan are "The New Gods" as an alternate lore timeline for players to think about.

History

Five hundred years after EverQuest 2's timeline, the cataclysmic war among Norrath's deities shattered the world, swallowing capitals like Qeynos, Freeport, Neriak, and Gorowyn into abyssal voids. The remaking fused Norrath's fragments with Hyborian echoes, creating the savage Exiled Lands—a brutal realm of ruins, curses, and survival. However, rather than merging the pantheons, the Reckoning weakened Norrath's "Old Gods," forcing them into a diminished, slumbering state. Their essences linger as faint echoes in relics and ruins, worshipped by survivors clinging to ancient traditions.

Into this void rose the "New Gods"—primal deities from the Hyborian infusion, embodying the raw barbarism of the remade world. These ascendant powers demand blood, strength, and conquest, often clashing with Old God remnants through visions, avatars, or cult wars. Magic remains a lost art, tainted and scarce, with Old God sorcery evoking nostalgia but risking madness, while New God rituals invoke immediate, visceral power at the cost of corruption (tied to Conan's mechanics). Worship is savage: Old Gods through whispered prayers at hidden shrines, New Gods via grand altars of sacrifice.

This duality fuels RP tension—players choose allegiances, sparking conflicts like "Old Faith revivals" vs. "New God purges." Absent races (dwarves, ratonga, ogres, frogloks, trolls) fell as casualties of the Old Gods' defeat, their patrons too weakened to protect them. Survivors (humans, elves, dark elves, kerra, vah shir, half-elves, iksar) navigate the divide, some blending faiths in heretical cults.

The New Gods: Ascendant Powers of the Exiled Lands

Crom

Indifference, strength, wilderness.

Stoic god of Cimmerians, granting power at birth but ignoring pleas.

Patron of self-reliant survivors; no altars—worship through feats in storms.

Kerra/vah shir nomads in highlands; echoes Old Karana's tempests.

Set

Serpents, venom, sorcery.

Ancient serpent-god of Stygians, demanding sacrifice.

Ruler of intrigue cults; altars summon snakes, granting poison magic.

Dark elves in caves; rivals Innoruuk's hate with serpentine spite.

Mitra

Justice, order, healing.

Lawful god of Aquilonians, opposing chaos.

Enforcer of fragile codes; altars heal but demand oaths, clashing with Old Marrs.

Humans in fortress-ruins; inspires knightly bands.

Ymir

Frost, giants, north.

Father of frost giants, embodying harsh winters.

Guardian of tundras; altars summon ice-beasts, aiding against heat.

Elves in frozen wastes; echoes Tunare's growth in survival terms.

Yog

Flesh-eating, cannibalism, horror.

Purifier through consumption, worshipped by Darfari.

Lord of fear-feasts; altars corrupt with mutations, summoning abominations.

Iksar in volcanos; amplifies Cazic-Thule's terror.

Derketo

Fertility, death, sensuality.

Dual goddess of life-death cycles, revered in pleasure-cults.

Inspirer of passion-rituals; altars grant bonds or deadly ecstasies.

Half-elves in jungles; tempts Erollisi's love with darker edges.

Bel

Thieves, deception, guile.

God of tricksters, favoring cunning over strength.

Patron of shadows; no formal altars—worship via heists in ruins.

Humans as rogues; mirrors Bristlebane's mischief in savage form.

This structure allows dynamic RP: Old God loyalists delve ruins for awakenings, while New God zealots purge "heretics." Events could involve "God-Clash" purges where avatars battle. The old ways could clash with the new, with the Tier'dal who follow Innoruuk seeing Set followers as corrupted and unworthy idol worshippers. May roleplay possibilities arise, with those from the new world trying to study the old ways, and followers of the old gods seeking a return to their past glory.
